Loyal both in life and undeath, Ekkehardt was a mage and healer of House Gehring. Captured while protecting the scions of his noble house, Ekkehardt was tortured at length before succumbing to his pain at the hands of a rival house's head (who liked to make torture a hands on, personal affair). His mutilated, almost unrecognisable body was delivered to House Gehring's doorstep; it was transferred to a special tomb in the crypts below, and Ekkehardt soon regained his consciousness and purpose as a substantially more powerful lich.

He continues to serve House Gehring faithfully in his new, expanded role as seneschal, diplomat and doctor - as well as an assassin and spy. The will of his masters is his will as well, and he carries out their orders without hesitation or mercy.

Ekkehardt is smoothly polite and a cool-headed professional even in times of crisis. Confident in the manner of a servant who knows exactly what he's doing at all times, he's also well practiced at spotting and soothing over brewing conflict as well as soothing wounds. He enjoys subtle barbs and bantering with those who engage him on his own level, but he tends to view showing too much emotion as unprofessional when on the clock. He usually can't resist mockery if he finds something too amusing to let slip, however, and is always ready with a snide comment or two at someone else's expense.

He can be friendly and even warm to those he cares about, but his loyalty to his masters and his strict adherence to what few rules of conduct he does have are absolute.
